Abandoned by her husband, Amanda Wingfield comforts herself with recollections of her earlier, more gracious life in Blue Mountain when she was pursued by 'gentleman callers'. Her son Tom, a poet with a job in a warehouse, longs for adventure and escape from his mother's suffocating embrace, while Laura, her shy crippled daughter, has her glass menagerie and her memories. Amanda is desperate to find her daughter a husband, but when the long-awaited gentleman caller does arrive, Laura's romantic illusions are crushed.
##“Being disappointed is one thing and being discouraged is something else. I am disappointed but I am not discouraged.”
評分##I didn't go to the moon, I went much further--for time is the longest distance between two places. /The scene is memory and is therefore nonrealistic. Memory takes a lot of poetic license. It omits some details; others are exaggerated, according to the emotional value of the articles it touches, for memory is seated predominantly in the heart.

評分##An emissary from a world of reality that we were somehow set apart from. The long delayed but always expected something that we live for.
評分##"The apartment faces an alley and is entered by a fire escape, a structure whose name is a touch of accidental poetic truth, for all of these huge buildings are always burning with the slow and implacable fires of human desperation."
評分##原來我對Laura這個名字悲情的感覺是從這個劇本來的。。。

評分##I cross the street, I run into the movies or a bar, I buy a drink, I speak to the nearest stranger--anything that can blow yr candles out! -for nowadays the world is lit by lightning! Blow yr candles and so goodbye. *uneasy*
