As the hot summer evening unfolds, the veneer of happy family life and Southern gentility gradually slips away as unpleasant truths emerge and greed, lies, jealousy and suppressed sexuality threaten to reach boiling point. Made into a film starring Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is a masterly portrayal of family tensions and individuals trapped in prisons of their own making.

##cat on a hot tin roof，好比喻也經不起反復用，靈氣受摺磨。 Broadway Version結局不如原版，強求人物發狠，突變太多。Williams的解釋是，"Brick should undergo some apparent mutation"，但想沒想過，醉鬼真的隻希望跪在爛攤子裏流點眼淚，他不要變，要酒。非把玻璃裂痕都熔瞭，捏作新玻璃，說這是人的崛起，之後再不會碎，以為這麼更聰明。殊不知最好的就是那一個碎，全毀瞭最聰明。

評分##還是更喜歡《欲望》，那部裏麵衝突的核心沒有這裏具象化，可能我更喜歡戲劇裏那種個人或某一特殊群體的絕境吧。Brick有點讓我想起Hemingway那些主人公，the additional charm of that cool air of detachment that people who have gicen up the struggle, 不過他是被動的。包括Maggie the cat，這部是關於一種焦灼，從現實來的脅迫感。

評分##誰能比在燙鐵皮屋頂的貓更焦躁不安，我們都在等我們腦中的click。一場關於癌癥、遺産、愛情、傢庭、同性戀、酗酒和欺騙的生日會，典型的偶閤傢庭，各懷所圖，或單純或貪婪或絕望，人之常情的復雜性，矛盾鮮明卻引而不發。前兩幕可謂intense到極緻，第三幕的兩個版本個人更喜歡第一個，這是個不需要溫情的劇本。 沒買到中譯本，隻好讀原版，劇情過於流暢和緊張使得頻頻的錯字和縮寫也不是什麼閱讀大問題。隻是不明白這個寫在1954年的劇本為何跟網上分類到兒童讀物裏麵瞭。
評分##第二幕對the difficulty of communication的展現太神瞭……mendacity! Plot 太差靠颱詞救，第二幕救迴來瞭第三幕兩個版本都不行。
