As the hot summer evening unfolds, the veneer of happy family life and Southern gentility gradually slips away as unpleasant truths emerge and greed, lies, jealousy and suppressed sexuality threaten to reach boiling point. Made into a film starring Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is a masterly portrayal of family tensions and individuals trapped in prisons of their own making.

人物性格塑造得很鲜明，戏剧的题目直接道出了主人公的处境，而作者又没有赋予了其过多的对白，没有详细点明她的处境如何，反而是用他人来衬托她，慢慢读下去，maggie的性格就都呈现出来了。

Liquor is one way out and death is the other." 两个版本的结局我都挺喜欢的，田纳西原版的结尾Brick的反问有一种很无奈的悲伤，可能观众更多的是同情Brick；百老汇版的结尾是Maggie走投无路的哀求，就像a cat on a hot tin roof，就像田纳西自己记录的导演Kazan提的建议"...the character of Margaret...should be, if possible, more clearly sympathetic to an audience."田纳西真的很会写家庭成员之间的紧张和矛盾关系，个人觉得比奥尼尔要好很多。

评分##还是更喜欢《欲望》，那部里面冲突的核心没有这里具象化，可能我更喜欢戏剧里那种个人或某一特殊群体的绝境吧。Brick有点让我想起Hemingway那些主人公，the additional charm of that cool air of detachment that people who have gicen up the struggle, 不过他是被动的。包括Maggie the cat，这部是关于一种焦灼，从现实来的胁迫感。

评分##cat on a hot tin roof，好比喻也经不起反复用，灵气受折磨。 Broadway Version结局不如原版，强求人物发狠，突变太多。Williams的解释是，"Brick should undergo some apparent mutation"，但想没想过，醉鬼真的只希望跪在烂摊子里流点眼泪，他不要变，要酒。非把玻璃裂痕都熔了，捏作新玻璃，说这是人的崛起，之后再不会碎，以为这么更聪明。殊不知最好的就是那一个碎，全毁了最聪明。
