France, 1939 - In the quiet village of Carriveau, Vianne Mauriac says goodbye to her husband, Antoine, as he heads for the Front. She doesn't believe that the Nazis will invade France … but invade they do, in droves of marching soldiers, in caravans of trucks and tanks, in planes that fill the skies and drop bombs upon the innocent. When a German captain requisitions Vianne's home, she and her daughter must live with the enemy or lose everything. But when he betrays her, Isabelle joins the Resistance and never looks back, risking her life time and again to save others.

評分##想要把救贖, 反抗, 悔恨, 原諒, 愛這些宏大的概念穿插在一個故事中, 同時又能讓小說既有極高的完整性, 又不落俗套, 真是一般作傢做不到的。夜鶯從女性的角度來審視二戰對法國人民的帶來的苦痛, 而就是這女性的角度在二戰文學中還是比較罕見的, 似乎我們已經完全接受二戰是男人的戰爭這個'事實', 而故事中的倆姐妹卻是曆史中女性反抗者的縮影, 雖有天差地彆的性格, 但都用不同的方式來維護正義, 反抗邪惡的納粹主義, 她們所承受的不比奔赴前綫的男人少。雖然最後算是悲劇結尾, 但全書裏卻還是散發著淡淡的愛的氣息, 父親對女兒的愛, 妻子對丈夫的愛, 朋友之間的愛, 對猶太兒童的愛, 等等。就像結尾所述, 傷口終將痊愈, 愛終將延續, 我們還是最初的我們。 五星推薦！
