MARY POPE OSBORNE is the author of the New York Times number one bestselling Magic Tree House series. She and her husband, writer Will Osborne (author of Magic Tree House: The Musical), live in northwestern Connecticut with their three dogs. Ms. Osborne is also the coauthor of the companion Magic Tree House Fact Trackers series with Will, and with her sister, Natalie Pope Boyce.

悲傷的種子有時候我們都隻是想開開心心地活著，然後快樂地為這個世界做一些事情。然而這個世界每天都會發生悲劇，各種天災人禍和無奈。麵對著親人和朋友的無奈，我們深深刻地為心裏那份無力感而難過。有時，在旁邊觀看的人很容易就以為可以通過自己的努力，讓失去親人的人快樂起來。其實，要從悲傷中走齣來的那個過程，遠比我們以為的要長。旁人有時真的什麼也做不瞭，除瞭陪他們哭泣，給悲傷的人一些生活上的關懷，短時間內是無法緩解他們的傷痛的，不恰當的安慰，有時反而會變成在傷口上撒鹽。他們有權悲傷，有權哭泣，有權度過長長的哀悼期。若真的關心他們。就請用溫柔的眼睛看著他們，靜默地尊重他們的悲傷。安靜地拉著他們的手，不要讓他們做齣傷害自己的事。有天他們會走齣來，陪著你笑。但在那之前，請你靜靜地等待。悲傷是一顆有時候我們不得不去吞下的種子。吞下後，全身像跌人冰窖一般，漆黑又寒冷。我們唯有忍耐，或努力地做一些分散自己注意力的事情，來度過這煎熬。我們會覺得心碎瞭，再也無法恢復本來的模樣。之後，悲傷的種子吸收瞭時間的養分，會在心裏的黑暗地帶發芽，先長齣一片發光的嫩葉，然後，沿著我們破碎的心一圈又一圈地生長。奇跡般地，心又被它縫補在一起瞭。雖然再也迴不到原來的單純無憂，但，就讓它在心底發芽好瞭，讓我們劫後重生的心，更柔韌堅強。
