Gilbert Strang was an undergraduate at MIT and a Rhodes Scholar at Balliol College, Oxford. His Ph.D. was from UCLA and since then he has taught at MIT. He has been a Sloan Fellow and a Fairchild Scholar and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is a Professor of Mathematics at MIT, an Honorary Fellow of Balliol College, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Professor Strang has published eleven books:

He was the President of SIAM during 1999 and 2000, and Chair of the Joint Policy Board for Mathematics. He received the von Neumann Medal of the US Association for Computational Mechanics, and the Henrici Prize for applied analysis. The first Su Buchin Prize from the International Congress of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the Haimo Prize from the Mathematical Association of America, were awarded for his contributions to teaching around the world. 評分##MIT著名綫代課程的教材，因為沒時間跟視頻就直接看教材瞭。這本書定位是入門，但我覺得學過綫代的再看一遍收獲也很大，書裏提供的一些理解角度是我從來沒有注意到過的例如Ax=b的四個重要嚮量空間，還有矩陣乘法的四種理解，看完真的覺得太amazing瞭。 不過也有缺點，這本書行文風格更像是一本課堂講義，看起來總覺得有點不順暢，需要自己重新組織好知識點。
評分##我學完的第一本英文教材書，教材編的真的棒，小結，例子，配圖都非常用心，不僅僅從數學的角度介紹綫代，很多精力放在瞭實際應用的例子上，不會像本科期間的教材，學的不知所以然，僅變成瞭分數的奴隸。
