Humanist, skeptic, acute observer of himself and others, Michel de Montaigne (1533u92) was the first to use the term 'essay'a to refer to the form he pioneered and he has remained one of its most famous practitioners. 而讀濛田的書，按我的理解，他的思想以溫柔敦厚為教化，以中庸為和尚。與其他哲學傢不同，懷疑論在他思想中不過是看問題的一個齣發點。他懷疑的是教條，是俗世的偏見，是極端的狂熱，是對一切言之有理的事情做一番懷疑。但他不是徹底的懷疑論者，用他的話說：“徹底的懷疑論者容易對世事失去瞭信心與恒力。”
