Philip Pullman has won many distinguished prizes, including the Carnegie Medal for The Golden Compass (and the reader-voted "Carnegie of Carnegies" for the best children's book of the past seventy years); the Whitbread (now Costa) Book of the Year Award for The Amber Spyglass; a Booker Prize long-list nomination (The Amber Spyglass); Parents' Choice Gold Awards (The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass); and the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, in honor of his body of work. In 2004, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
Philip Pullman is the author of many books for young readers, including two volumes related to the His Dark Materials trilogy: Lyra's Oxford and Once Upon a Time in the North. He lives in Oxford, England.

The witch Serafina Pekkala, quoting an angel, sums up the central theme: "All the history of human life has been a struggle between wisdom and stupidity. The rebel angels, the followers of wisdom, have always tried to open minds; the Authority and his churches have always tried to keep them closed." Early on, this "Authority" is explicitly identified as the Judeo-Christian God, and he is far from omnipotent: his Kingdom is ruled by a regent. 　　但是到第二本之后就变了。莱拉和威尔首先来到的这个异世界，是一个荒芜的世界。这里有空无一人的城市，游荡在街道上的妖怪，生活在野外无助的人类。深埋在天使之塔中的秘密。远远的飞过天空的天使，带来了战争的硝烟。

说、读、写等交际活动的能力，即 “四会”。从学习的角度来说，“读”是其它“三会”的基础，因为在国内学习英语的环境中，听、说、写的机会较少，我们通常是通过大量阅读各种英语书报杂志来丰富我们的“ 语感”(Speech feeling)(即对英语的感性认识)，扩大英语词汇量，提高英语理解和表达能力。

如果不是Nicole Kidman这个票房毒药，我就可以看后面2部书拍成的电影。书很便宜，不过纸张比较次，不过这个价格这个内容还是很值的

　　昨天下午终于把《黑质三部曲》的最后一本《琥珀望远镜》看完了，说实话后两本给我的感觉不如第一本好。第一本的那种童话气氛让我感觉非常舒服。而后两本的结构很拥挤的。尤其是第三本，或许也有可能是因为我读的太急了，第一本是分了好几次慢慢看完的，而后两本都是一整个下午就解决掉的。

　　似乎菲利普 普尔曼在完成《黄金罗盘》之后想把他这个故事改变成另一种风格，于是在后两本中他试图营造一种史诗的气氛。但是说实话，他不是很成功。比起《魔戒》或者《基地》，《黑质三部曲》还是有一定距离。但是《黑质三部曲》仍不失为一个好故事。
