For years, Nadezhda and Vera, two Ukrainian sisters, raised in England by their refugee parents, have had as little as possible to do with each other - and they have their reasons. 作者簡介

Marina Lewycka was born in Kiel, Germany at the end of the war and grew up in England. She is the author of three bestselling novels: A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian, Two Caravans and We Are All Made of Glue.

　　對於學習拉丁語的學生來說，這部詞典是最佳的伴侶，因為“拉丁語—英語”的部分不僅包含動詞的所有重要形式（如mitto, mittere, misi, missum），它還另外加上瞭動詞的完成時形式（比如misi perf of mitto，即：misi為mitto完成時形式），為初學者提供寶貴的幫助，消除瞭查找單詞來源的煩惱和睏惑。每一詞條的解釋簡明經典，而且這部詞典迴避“通過同源英語詞解釋拉丁語的單詞”，比如拉丁語的occupatio被解釋為taking possession，沒有用英語的occupation。換言之，這部詞典用很豐富的英語詞匯來解釋每個拉丁單詞。在那些非常關鍵的單詞那裏也有一些搭配的詞組，比如capio, capere（拿）：initium ~ （開始）。
