在该游戏中，玩家将扮演“Freddy's Fazbear's Pizza”这家比萨店的夜间巡逻员，负责店内的一切财务安全。这家比萨店为了吸引更多的孩子到来，在店里摆设了许多玩具熊。但其实这些都是Ai机器人，每当午夜时分就会莫名其妙地活动起来，寂静深夜竟有如此异端恐怖的事情发生，而且作为主人公的玩家，还要在内冒险并安全度过5个晚上。

《玩具熊的五夜后宫》系列作者Scott Cawthon已经发售了一部464页的小说，这部小说是根据他开发的流行恐怖游戏改编而来的。小说的名字为《Five Nights at Freddy's: The Silver Eyes 》(FNAF：银眼)，这部书是由他和Kira Breed-Wrisley共同撰写的。

这本书的主角是一位叫做Charlie的女人，她的父亲拥有恶魔般的家庭趣味。这部小说描述了Charlie回到她的家乡和她的童年玩伴一同去探索一间被遗弃的披萨店，一个包含着电子动物的恐怖事件将会在10年后发生。
