作者簡介

奧威爾，ERIC ARTHUR BLAIR （1903-1950）， better known by his penname George Orwell， was anEnglish novelist and journalist.His work is marked by keen intelligence and wit， a passion for clarity in language and a beliefindemocratic socialism. Contemporary readers are more often introduced to Orwell as a novelist， particularly through his enormously successful titles Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four. The former is considered an allegory of the corruption of the socialist ideals of the Russian Revolution by Stalinism， and the latter is Orwell's prophetic vision of the results of totalitarianism. Orwell denied that ArumaI Farm was a reference to Stalinism.

There was a word for it in Newspeak： OWNLIFE， it was called，meaning individualism and eccentriaty. But this evening as he came out of the Ministry the balminess of the April air had tempted him. 大學時讀到的第一本原版書就是Animal Farm，很有趣又很諷刺，記得那時同學們排著隊藉閱這本小說，想重溫，同時也想讀讀1984。
