TED CHIANG was born in Port Jefferson, New York, and holds a degree in computer science. His fiction has won numerous awards. His first collection, Stories of Your Life and Others, has been translated into ten languages. He lives near Seattle, Washington.

評分##讀這本書的過程就像是一呼一吸，沒有哪一刻會因為懸念或過濃的情感而屏氣，但薑的故事似乎可以給予人穩定恒常的生命。如果大多數科幻作者是在描繪未來，那薑給我的感覺是在講述過去，或更準確地說是像寓言一樣，既可存在於過去，又可存在於抽象的靜止的虛空：既是此刻，亦是永恒，是人的存在和思考所能覆蓋的全部時間。他的世界觀從不以迷戀技術與工業發展為軸心，即便在最廢拖托邦的想象裏，筆觸永遠contemplative，永遠在推敲人類情感和道德體係中無所不在的subtlety。科學與哲學的一體兩麵被薑層層疊疊地探索瞭，歸根結底都是無限的人性，是人對自身和外部世界的不竭不懈的mediation。科幻作品裏永遠不應該缺少/人/的痕跡。
