Douglas Adams is the author of five books in the Hitchhiker's Trilogy including The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy; The Restaurant at the End of the Universe; Life, the Universe and Everything; So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish; and Mostly Harmless. He lives in London.

　　就連談的那場戀愛，都像被附瞭身，勉強得不得瞭。這場飛一般的愛情故事若是單獨成章，還能因為摸不著頭腦，帶來些深切的朦朧美感。但放在這本書的開頭，亞瑟你都疲憊成那樣瞭灰暗成那樣瞭剛迴到地球你的精神衝擊是有多麼大還在安穩過日子的愚蠢人類和你之間的疏離感該是多麼強怎麼就有心情對一個昏睡的女子一見鍾情瞭呢？這一定還是Matrix的指令，通過一場戀愛讓你倆接頭而已。為的是你關乎全宇宙的偉大任務。

　　普洛塞先生，按照人們的說法，隻是一個普通人。換句話說，他屬於一種主要由碳元素構成的兩足動物，直接從猿進化而來。如果要再多介紹幾句的話，那麼， 他40歲，是個胖子，衣著破舊，為本地的委員會工作。有趣的是，雖然他本人並不知道，但他確確實實是成吉思汗的直係後代，盡管過多的代係和種族的融閤早已 經改變瞭他的基因，使他不再具有濛古人外貌上的特徵。說起來，普洛塞先生那偉大的祖先留給他的惟一遺傳特徵也許就是明顯的矮壯身材，以及對短毛皮帽子的偏 愛瞭。
