When he thinks about applying for the job at the Buttercup Dairy, a big gray cat pushes him out of the way. While wandering around, he comes across a sign for a "busboy," and is sure that it's the job for him. There he helps an opera singer to sing again, and makes a sad king laugh, but he causes such a commotion that he is fired. The manager then finds Buzby a job that uses his talent for making people happy--he becomes the doorman, taking care of the hotel's guests. Himmelman's softly brushed illustrations complement the text and keep readers engaged. Buzby's persistence will inspire some, while others will enjoy the story for what it is: not very exciting but not too dull."
